James McKinley Hicks, 96 of Nortonville passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Baptist Health Hospital. Born January 12, 1922, to the late William and Georgia (Ashby) Hicks. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church and served as deacon for many years. A lifetime member of Masonic Lodge N.H. Shaw # 608, Scottish Rite, and Past Potentate at Rizpah Temple in 2003. He also served as Vice President of the United Transportation Union for several years before retirement. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Hicks. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Billy Wayne, Jerry and Lola Hicks, and the staff of the Paragon.
Survived by his two sons, Corkie (Lois) Hicks of London, KY, and Don (Shirley) Hicks of Owensboro.
Service will be held at New Salem Church in Nortonville on Tuesday at 11:00a.m. with Bro. Steve Rutherford officiating. Burial to follow in New Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Monday from 4:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7:00p.m. and after 10:00a.m. Tuesday. Pallbearers are James Nelson, Jamie, and Jerry Hicks, Johnny Ashby, Charles Elkins and Brad Harris. Honorary pallbearers are the deacons of the church.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, mail to Rizpah Temple 3300 Hanson Rd. Madisonville, KY 42431.
