Leroy "Kingfish" Messamore, 89, left this world on March 3 to be met at the Gates of Heaven by his parents Ora and Harvey, his wife of 62 years ,Jean his dog Missy ,as well as many other relatives.
He will be greatly missed by his only child, Copperhead, his two granddaughters, Victoria Geraghty and Toni Martin, his 3 great-granddaughters Brooke and Brittaney Martin and Sophie Geraghty.
Leroy retired after 40 years of service from the Illinois Central Railroad he was also a farmer.
He was a deeply religious man who served as a deacon under brother Jimmy Russell at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church for many years. He enjoyed family dinners, 4-wheeling,
gardening ,camping at Kentucky Lake, hunting for antiques and listening to U of K basketball games on the radio. He loved to whittle. It can never be said that he let his favorite chair run away as soon as it got the chance .He made sure it stayed in place with him in it ! He always made room for dessert !
He will be remembered for his stories from the good old days, expressing himself freely- much to the embarrassment of his family, for regaling his opinions on countless people far and wide who were never interest or cared ,in addition to his wit. His neighbors will be relieved knowing they will never again have to witness him watering his yard!
A graveside service will be Saturday March 10th at Ilsley Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. with Brother Ross Burns officiating.
