William David Phillips, 66 of Nebo passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at his residence. Born October 7, 1952, to the late Earl and Juanita (Ferguson) Phillips. He was a very active member of New Salem Baptist Church where he was in the choir, a cook, member of World Changers and Winter Extreme. He was a Staff Sergeant for the Army National Guard for 14 years and a Kentucky Colonel. He was retired Human Resource Director for Tyson Foods and a member of several Professional Human Resource Committees. David was an avid UK Wildcats fan and a professional hugger. The following are some of his qualifications and accomplishments for work and his profession: certified as a Professional Human Resources Manager thru National SHRM (Society of Human Resources Managers); certified in Labor Relations and Arbitrations and in World Class Manufacturing Managing Association; Western District Director for KYSHRM State Council; President of two (2) SHRM chapters in Western Kentucky; Kentucky Poultry Federation Board Member; Green River Area District Board Member; Chamber of Commerce Board Member for Hopkins / Davies / McLean Counties; State Representative for the KY State Chamber of Commerce; Board Member of the Madisonville Manufacturing Association; Board Member of the Henderson/Hopkins County Chamber / Economic Development; and a volunteer with Hopkins / Webster / McLean / Henderson County Food Banks.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother, Timothy Phillips; sister, Rebecca Phillips; and nephew, Wyatt Whitaker.
Survived by his children, Jeremy David Phillips of Clarksville, Tennessee, Stephanie (Greg) Rush of Bowling Green, Zachary (Erin) Phillips, San Antonio, Texas, and Jacob Ross Phillips of Madisonville; 7 grandchildren, Tyler, Morgyn, Seth, Jackson, Dylan, Colton and Jett; brothers, John (Kathy) Phillips of Nortonville and Mark (Peggy) Phillips of Henderson; sisters, Mary Sue (Ricky) Whitaker of White Plains and Debi (Kevin) Stratton of Nortonville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at New Salem Baptist Church in Nortonville with Bro. Steve Rutherford officiating. Burial to follow at New Salem Cemetery with Staff Sergeant Military Honors. Visitation will be at the church Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P. M. and Wednesday after 11:00 A.M. Pallbearers are Tyler Rush, Jackson Rush, Seth Phillips, Jeremy Phillips, Zachary Phillips and Ross Phillips. Honorary Pallbearers are Dylan and Colton Phillips, Greg and Jett Rush, Ricky Whitaker and Kevin Stratton.
