Bonita "Bonnie" Ray (Hamby) Johnson

Bonita "Bonnie" Ray Johnson, 70 of Mortons Gap passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at University of Louisville Hospital.  Born August 6, 1953, to the late Charles and Delores (Ray) Hamby.  Bonnie married her high school sweetheart, Gary Johnson, and they celebrated 53 years in December.  They worked together at Johnson’s Sales for over 25 years— but everyone knows she ran the place.  Bonnie was the life of the party and brought laughter to all.  She was her daughter, Ashley’s, biggest fan and they enjoyed a fierce bond.  She loved to watch her only grandchild, Brady, play baseball and never stopped trying to be a “cool” grandmother.  She leaves behind her big brother, Gary, who she adored and admired.  She loved to garden and her flowers brought her great joy.  Bonnie was a friend to animals and an advocate to the humane society.  She was generous—when she heard of a need, she was the first to respond and help.  Bonnie had many treasured friends -especially her besties "The Tuesday Pool Crew."  Her laughter will be missed.

Survived by her husband, Gary Johnson; daughter, Ashley (Brian) Butler of Louisville; grandson, Brady Butler; brother, Gary (Cathy) Hamby of FL; brother-in-law, Philip Johnson; nephew, Seth Johnson; niece, Katie (Daniel) Barber; and her beloved dog, Scout.

Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville.  Graveside service to follow at Old Salem Cemetery in Mortons Gap at 1:30pm with Pastor Connie Crick officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Hopkins County Humane Society or your favorite animal charity in Bonnie's memory.
