Douglas Fairbanks Long, 90 of Dawson Springs passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center. Born October 25, 1933, to the late Newman and Lorene (Rodgers) Long. He attended Charleston Baptist Church, he was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and throughout his life he worked for TVA Paradise Steam Plant as a pipe fitter. Douglas had a benevolent heart that led him to be a member of Rizpah Temple and Knights of the Red Cross. He was a member of N.H. Shaw Masonic Lodge #608 where he served as Master on 3 different occasions, he was a State Jr. Deacon and a 33rd degree Mason. Douglas enjoyed time outdoors hunting and fishing, but his love was always spending time with his family, they were his pride and joy.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Duke Long; and brother, Charles Long.
Survived by two sons, Barry (Alisa) Long of Madisonville and Ricky (Marilyn) Long of Dawson Springs; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 3 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Robert Long of Florida, Tim Long, Chris Long, Newman Long, Greg Long, Pam Long and Debbie Long.
Service will be held Wednesday, December 27, at 2:00pm at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville with Bro. Patrick Yates officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery with Military Rites provided by Hopkins County Honor Guard. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00pm - 7:00pm and Wednesday from noon until service time at the funeral home.
