Edna (Tinsley) Brackey

Edna Tinsley Brackey, age 95, of Portsmouth, OH, formerly of Hopkins County, KY, passed away October 31, 2015, at the Hill View Retirement Center in Portsmouth, OH.  She was born to Charles and Effie (Allen) Tinsley on July 11, 1920, on the Tinsley Farm which was located on US Highway 62 midway between Nortonville and White Plains, KY.  She graduated from Nortonville High School and in 1945 completed a government training program in Washington, DC for advanced administrative support positions.  Edna spent her professional career as an executive assistant, chief-of-staff, and senior office administrator for the Government at various facilities in Washington, DC, Phoenix, AZ, Boulder City, NV, and Portsmouth, OH.  Upon retirement, she worked several years in similar capacities for private industry.  Edna was known for her joyous sense of humor, enjoying extensive traveling, visiting her son and grandson in California and nieces in Louisville, and spending her winters in Florida.  She was an excellent bridge player, enjoyed entertaining, and regularly attended cultural events at the local university.  Edna chose to donate her body to the College of Medicine at The Ohio State University knowing this donation would benefit the advanced studies of medical students.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Thomas Brackey, grandson Thomas Brackey, II Esq. (Catherine), great-grandsons Archer and Griffin Brackey, nieces Mary Louise Meyers, Angela Denham, Jeanette Bond, nephew Arthur Tinsley, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Brackey, siblings Louise Williams, Gordon Tinsley, Howard Tinsley, and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Brackey.

A graveside committal service for her ashes will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Concord Cemetery, White Plains, KY.  Services are under the arrangement of Bandy Funeral Home of Nortonville, KY.
