Ernest Edward Proffitt, 90 of Nortonville passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born October 29, 1930, in Chicago, IL, to the late Lynn and Mabel (Ford) Proffitt of Nortonville. He was a member of Trinity Pentecostal Church in Central City and had retired from GE Aviation. He served in the U.S. Navy and was an Atomic Veteran with participation in Operation Castle in the Marshall Islands. When he was able he enjoyed having a large garden, bird hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his family that made him proud.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Dolores June (Crawford) Proffitt; sister, Mary Gunn; and brothers, James and Durwood Proffitt.
Survived by his children, Sherri (Randy) Vandiver of Nortonville and David (Sara) Proffitt of Nortonville; grandchildren, Amanda (Derek) Hull of Claremore, OK, Dustin Vandiver of Waterloo, IA, Joshua (Miranda) Vandiver of Independence, IA, and Brian Vandiver of Nortonville; and great-grandchildren, Raelynn and Coleman Vandiver.
Service will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Bandy Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Therold Futral officiating. Burial to follow at Gilland Ridge Cemetery in St. Charles with military rites performed at graveside by the Hopkins County Honor Guard. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Brian Vandiver, Joshua Vandiver, Lance VanCleve, Derek Hull, Bill Proffitt and Jarrett VanCleve.
Attendees are mandated to wear a mask and social distancing is required. Anyone that has or has had a positive Covid-19 test or signs/symptoms in the past 14 days is requested to not attend.
