George David Pennington, 74 of Nortonville passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville. Born November 26, 1946, to the late Emmett Clair and Edna (Davis) Pennington, Sr. of Liberty. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church for many years and recently has been attending White Plains Missionary Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school and was an ordained Baptist Deacon for over 30 years. George retired after 34 years of teaching chemistry, math and science in Hopkins County. Spending time with all of the people that called him "Pappy" was his favorite part of retirement.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Tara Lynette Pennington.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sheila Gamble Pennington; daughter, Christi (Heath) Carlton of Kuttawa; son, Jared (Ashley) Pennington of White Plains; 6 grandchildren, Courtney (Greyson) Taylor of Cadiz, Sierra Carlton of Kuttawa, Tara (Sean Menser) Pennington of Nortonville, Abbie Carlton of Kuttawa, Sol Pennington of White Plains and Gracie Pennington of White Plains; 3 great-grandchildren, Braxton Taylor, Alexis Taylor and soon-to-be McKinley Menser; 3 siblings, E.C. (Linda) Pennington, Jr. of Hebron, Judy (Tony) Emerson of Liberty, and Jodie (Melinda) Pennington of Coppell, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be held Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at New Salem Baptist Church in Nortonville with Bro. Heath Carlton and Bro. J.D. Holt officiating. Burial to follow at New Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Saturday after 10:00 a.m. at the church.
