Lowman Lamont Barnes, 77 of Mortons Gap passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Western Kentucky Veterans Center. Born May 25, 1946, to the late Leonard and Lucy (Putman) Barnes of Mortons Gap. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Lowman worked as a coal miner for 45 years and was a member of UMWA; he worked at Island Creek, R.J. Temper and Ken America throughout those years. He had a passion for horses and horse riding. He helped start the Mortons Gap Saddle Club and was a barrel racer in younger years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Wynetona Barnes and Parthena Barnes.
Survived by his daughter, Ketta (Tim) Harkins of Greenville; son, Monty (Bobbie) Barnes of Fort Branch, IN; grandchildren, Stashia (Brad) Menser, Paiton Houchins, Grace Harkins , Austin Barnes, Ashley Mills and Joshua Williams; great-grandchildren, Addie Menser, Drakelynn Harkins and Miko Barnes; siblings, Ohoma Daugherty, Omer (Karen) Barnes, Wauweene (Craig) Deason and Paul (Lisa) Barnes; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Service will be held Tuesday at 1;00pm at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville. Military rites will be provided by the Hopkins County Honor Guard at graveside. Burial to follow at New Salem Cemetery in Nortonville. Visitation will begin at 11:00am at the funeral home.
