Troy Earl Camplin, 52, of Richardson, TX, passed away on Monday, July 10th, 2023, at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital after a little over a year’s contest with cancer. Cancer got his body, while Troy kept his spirit despite body’s end.
He was born in South Bend, Indiana on June 26, 1971, to Cathleen A. Camplin and Emmett O. Camplin. Troy graduated from South Hopkins High School in KY (1989) and then went on to earn a degree in Recombinant Genetics from Western Kentucky University (1995). He earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi (2000) and then moved to Dallas where he earned a Ph.D. in the humanities from the University of Texas at Dallas (2004) under his much beloved friend and mentor, the poet and professor Frederick Turner.
He enjoyed being surrounded by all the wonderful art while working as a Gallery Attendant Supervisor at the Dallas Museum of Art and made many life-long friends there. Most recently, he had been enjoying working with his new team at Mouser Electronics as a marketing specialist. Both work paths involve Troy’s second greatest passion. Troy found beauty in everything the world offered, and he searched for that beauty in nature, art, poetry, literature, philosophy, and music. Fred Turner spoke to Troy the day before he passed away and told him he was a man of great intellect and virtue. Everyone who knew Troy would agree.
He was also a devoted husband and father who brought much love, a lot of laughter and joy into the lives of his wife and children. Troy will be missed most by his beloved wife Anna of 17 years, and his three children, Melina, Daniel, and Dylan. Those left to cherish his memory are his father and stepmother Emmett and Linda Camplin of White Plains, KY, his brother Todd Camplin (Christania) of Jefferson, TX, stepbrothers David Walls Jr. (Melinda) of Dawson Springs, KY, Scott Walls of Lexington, KY and Nathan Routt of Madisonville, KY.
Troy was preceded in death by his mother, Cathleen A. Camplin, his stepsister, Kelly Annette Harrell, and his grandmother Marceline Inman.
Committal service will be held at Cranor Church Cemetery in St. Charles on July 31, 2023, at 10:30am with Bro. Brad Payne officiating.
