Walter "Gene" Eugene Lear

Walter "Gene" Eugene Lear, 83 of White Plains went to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville.  Born October 15, 1940, to the late Frank and Maggie (Smith) Lear.  He was a member of White Plains Missionary Baptist Church for many years.  He began his working career at a steel mill, then became a coal miner for Peabody Mines at Sinclair Underground before working for Austin Powder.  He ended his working years working for the State Highway Department.  Gene was a 32nd Degree Mason and a past Master at Orphan's Friend Lodge in White Plains; he was a shriner at Rizpah Temple and a Kentucky Colonel.  Gene was a family man with a strong dedication to his family that will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Louise Lear; and brothers, William "Billy" Lear, Kenneth Lear and Jimmy Lear.

Survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Judy Scott Lear; daughters, Misty (Scotty) Rager and Julia Lear; grandchildren, Morgan (Jimmy) Pierce, Mallory (John) Gee, Cody (Brittany) Mattingly and Zachary (Heather) Mattingly; great-grandchildren, Jayzn, Hayden, Laken, Layla, Livi, Azlynn, Kellin, Maylie, Krew and Isabella; and brothers, Dannie Lear, Jerry (Faye) Lear and Alton (Anita) Lear.

Service will be held Tuesday at 1:00pm at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville with Bro. J.D. Holt officiating.  Masonic Rites will begin at 12:45pm with the funeral following.  Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in White Plains.  Visitation will begin at 11:00am at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Cody Mattingly, Zach Mattingly, Jimmy Pierce, Bradley Littlepage, Sawyer Smith and Stephen Lear.
